Ano Doliana

Ano Doliana are a tourist, traditional village for nature-and not only looking for short or long trips, with untouched natural beauty, good food and the ability to play.

On the northern slopes of Parnonas, 26 km Of Tripolis, at an altitude of about 1,000 meters, is the traditional village of Ano Doliana. The village is known since antiquity, and later, because it produced high quality marble which built many Great Temples.

It is a traditional village, built amphitheater, with cobbled streets, stone houses, bridges, fountains and a beautiful square with trees, with lovely views over the plains of Tripoli. The horizon reaches Mainalo, Artemisium, and Helmos Erymanthos.

With the recent interventions have been made (stone fences and stone), Ano Doliana,  is now a tourist resort with one of the few forest hostels exist in Greece and other hostels, restaurants, cafes etc.

The Folklore Museum is an exhibition space where you will see the Upper Doliana for past years. Also visit the ancient marble quarries, the chapels of the village  and the winery.

Do not forget to taste the Arcadian delights of authentic local products, such as pies, handmade noodles(hilopites), lagoto (rabbit with garlic) kagiana, meatballs, sausages, wild boar, as well as sweets and chestnuts.

Surroundings and sights

Located near the river Tanos, where you can admire the natural caves that have been created by erosion.

In place Kouvli, before anyone goes to Upper Doliana there an Ottoman taps. Another fountain is Papadia , while younger are taps Loutsitsa and red.

The chestnut and chestnut festival

Doliana village located in a lush natural setting, with chestnut, oak, cherry, walnut, sycamore and pine, while just outside the village is the chestnut and the small waterfall in the chapel of St. John.

The beautiful and thick chestnut forest is full of ravines and plenty of water and is an ideal starting point for hiking, but also for alternative activities such as archery, mountain biking and horseback riding. From the area passes and the European path E4.

Known is the Chestnut Festival is the village early November (three-day event with chestnuts roasted, boiled, stewed and sweet accompaniment to prime bream). Initiated by the Cultural Association Dolianon and combines years and the transfer of the image of St. George, patron saint of the village-leg Doliana (7 hours away!).

How to get there:

From the National Road Athens-Corinth, Corinth after still left towards Tripoli. Follow the National Road Tripoli-Sparta for approximately 2 km and then the provincial road Tripoli-Astros.

After the village Roots continue right towards Ano Doliana-Kastri- Agio Petro.
